Industry experts have called for the inclusion of start-ups in India's automotive Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, challenging the perception that early-stage companies without large-scale manufacturing capabilities do not contribute to the scheme's goals. They argue that start-ups play a crucial role in innovation and can help achieve the intended objectives of the PLI scheme, which aims to enhance domestic manufacturing and competitiveness in the automotive sector. Including start-ups could foster greater innovation and support the growth of the automotive ecosystem in India. Speaking to businessline, they note that the perception of start-ups being at an early-stage without industrial-scale manufacturing and hence not contributing to the scheme’s end goals, is unfounded.
