Tata Motors has confirmed that its upcoming Avinya premium electric vehicles (EVs) will be based on the Freelander platform developed by Chery Jaguar Land Rover (CJLR). This decision represents a significant change in Tata Motors' EV strategy, following the shelving of earlier plans involving Jaguar Land Rover's EMA-based platforms. The first Avinya model is scheduled for launch in India in 2027 and will be manufactured at Tata Motors' Panapakkam facility in Tamil Nadu. The company clarified that there will be no technology transfer involved in this collaboration, emphasizing the use of the existing CJLR platform for the new EV lineup.
